Freshwater - Recirculation technology

The third short training course of AquaEtreat was on the improvement and innovation of aquaculture effluent treatment technology for freshwater fish farming systems that use water recirculation technology. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the 'model' fish farms that have been developed in Denmark, where accent has been given to water recirculation and treatment so as to reduce the quantities of freshwater used in trout farming.

The course was organised in Billund (Denmark) on 28th-29th November 2006 at the Conference Centre of Hotel Legoland in Billund. The course was organised by the Aquaetreat Consortium, the FEAP and Dansk Akvalkultur.

The aim of the course was to introduce the representatives or consultants of European National Aquaculture Associations to the theoretical and practical nature of the systems developed for effluent treatment and waste management in fresh water aquaculture, focusing on farms using water recirculation systems. Participants will also be able to visit the ‘model’ fish farms, developed in Denmark, where the results of the first year’s operations of these farms will be reported.
